    • Incorporating energy-efficient and environmentally friendly materials and designs.
    • Helping to keep the occupants of our homes healthy while limiting pollution and environmental deterioration.
    • Original, thoughtful site design that takes advantage of existing land features.
    • Preserving open space and minimizing the impact on surrounding land.

At Chinburg, we’re proud to provide a wide variety of affordable solutions to our home buyers that add up to a truly impressive result.

Energy Star™’s Impact

The Energy Star™ program was created by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to provide cost-saving, energy efficient standards that protect the climate while improving air quality and protecting public health. This program encourages thoughtful building practices and a greater commitment to energy-efficient homes with a small carbon footprint.

How it Works

  1. Inspection. To receive the Energy Star™ rating, a home must meet a rigorous set of requirements and be inspected and rated by an independent third party. The rater is involved in evaluating the project from the original construction plans through to a final blower door test.
  2. Rating. This test contributes to a score which indicates whether the home meets (and exceeds) the standards.
  3. Report. After their closing, homeowners receive a customized report which indicates the HERS (Home Energy Rating System) score of their house and how it translates into energy cost savings and lowered carbon emissions. We strive to exceed standards in all homes to create the most savings for our buyers.

Since 1992, according to the EPA, Energy Star™ and its partners have helped American families and businesses:

    • Save 5 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity
    • Avoid more than $500 billion in energy costs ($350 per dollar spent)
    • Achieve 4 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas reductions
    • Reduce greenhouse gasses by over 3,000 lbs. annually per home (equivalent to the emissions absorbed by planting 39 trees)

These impressive numbers make us proud to offer energy saving products and standards in all of our homes.

Your Energy Star™ Home

The benefits of an Energy Star™ rating are vast, but the individual components of each home are the building blocks of savings.

Reduced Leaks & Drafts

Comprehensive air sealing, quality-installed insulation and high performing windows and doors minimize warm and cold spots.

Better Moisture Resistance

An exhaustive water management system, including flashing, moisture barriers and heavy-duty membranes, protects roofs, walls and foundations from moisture damage.

More Consistent Temperatures

A high efficiency heating and cooling system, designed and installed for optimal performance, ensures better comfort in every room, year-round.

Improved Air Quality

A fresh-air system admits a controlled amount of outdoor air. Combined with a high-performance filter, this improves indoor air quality and reduces dust, pollen and other allergens.

Energy-Efficient Lighting

On average, Energy Star™ certified bulbs and fixtures use 70-90% less energy than standard incandescent bulbs.

Air Conditioning

All Chinburg homes are equipped with Energy Star™ certified central air conditioning to provide optimal air quality and a comfortable temperature throughout the home.

High Performance Heating

The Department of Energy estimates that Energy Star™ residential heating systems save homeowners almost $1,800 a year.

Insulation & Windows

At Chinburg, we recommend Energy Star™ certified dual-pane windows that feature two layers of glass and provide more protection between your home and the outside elements. These low-emittance windows are coated in a material that reduces the amount of energy lost through the glass.

Energy Star™ Appliances

We help you select smart appliances such as Energy Star™-rated dishwashers, washers and dryers. Energy Star™ certified appliances help to reduce the energy needed to run the appliance and contribute to cost savings. Even Energy Star™ certified ventilation fans, like those in bathrooms and cooking areas, use 50% less energy than standard models.

Water-Saving Plumbing

We offer Energy Star™ rated toilets, faucets, shower heads and more to help provide efficient plumbing. Options like an auto shut-off for appliances like washers helps to avoid damage from leaks, and on-demand hot water can reduce the energy it takes to provide hot water to your home.

Smart Home Packages

With a Nest Thermostat, Hello Doorbell and Lutron Caseta Smart lighting, you can take the pulse on your home's safety and energy efficiency, even when you're away. All Chinburg homes offer Smart Home Packages as an upgrade option. Some of our communities, like Silvergrass Place, offer these packages as a standard to the build.

Our Energy Star™ Results

55% More Efficient

On average, our homes are 55% more energy-efficient than homes built to standard code.

Save 30% in Costs

Our homeowners save 30% in energy costs per year, on average.

Every year, the EPA reviews hundreds of applications and selects a small group that have made considerable and impressive contributions to the industry by achieving significant energy savings. These selected Partners of the Year are recognized as leaders in energy savings and are honored by Energy Star™.

Since 2016, Chinburg has been a national winner of the Energy Star Partner of the Year Award for 2 years and then earning the company Sustained Excellence recognition for the subsequent 5 years. We are proud of these achievements and continue to strive for improvement year over year.
