Saving the historic Carey Cottage from demolition and updating the space to create a livable and workable environment, while providing a home for GoodWork, a local nonprofit organization.
Our Approach
The Chinburg team was faced with several challenges that made the restoration of Carey Cottage an exciting and innovative project. Structural deterioration, land use restrictions, and a historic Japanese Maple Tree standing in the middle of the planned parking lot were just a few of the obstacles the team creatively and efficiently worked around. The restoration of Carey Cottage is more than a success story in historic preservation—it is a living example of how thoughtful design, community engagement, and mission alignment can come together to serve both people and place.
