Louie’s Restaurant

The Goal

Transforming an existing commercial space into a new home for Louie’s, reviving the beloved Portsmouth restaurant that closed after a 2018 fire. The design honors the character and legacy of the original while elevating it for a new chapter. Since reopening on Islington Street, the restaurant has quickly reestablished itself as a vibrant West End location, highlighting the value of adaptive reuse of our historic buildings.

Our Approach

The Chinburg Team was tasked with reviving an iconic restaurant brand with a deeply loyal following. Working closely with the owner, designer, and specialty trades, they ensured the new space honored the spirit of the original Louie’s while functioning seamlessly in its new location. Despite the constraints of an older West End Structure, they balanced design ambition with budget and schedule realities, delivering practical solutions that preserved the vision and supported a successful reopening.
