Our team worked to transform this century old, dilapidated building that had been used for storage and maintenance over the previous few decades, into a luxury club room for the 161 apartments at the Exeter Mill. The space shows off the exposed brick and the original timbers. The fireplace serves as a focal point for a cozy seating area. There is a catering kitchen with a bar, additional seating and conversation areas, a large farm table and a separate room for private meetings and dinners.
“The beautiful clubroom is a hub for social activity at the Mill. It is used for parties, book groups, painting groups and so many other resident activities. Residents love to spend time here as an extension of their own personal space, and are always proud to show it off to friends and family. It is an amazingly warm and inviting suite of rooms that showcases how the heritage of the Mills can be preserved while making way for new uses.”

To preserve the striking original features, the team needed to take a surgical approach to the demolition and restoration. The Chinburg Design Team was conscious of maintaining the building’s natural textures while highlighting historic details like the big round window at the front of the building. The result is the combination that Chinburg Properties has become known for: the transformation of underutilized or abandoned historic spaces into beautiful places for people to live, work and recreate with modern day comfort.
