Overview
As Vice President of Development and Asset Management, Matt oversees a team that leads the assessment, planning, permitting, and financing of new opportunities for adaptive re-use, acquisition, and land development. Under Matt’s leadership, the team captains the projects through the development life cycle from acquisition to the successful project completion and transition to property management or new home sales.
In addition, Matt’s responsibilities include overseeing the financial performance of Chinburg’s investment property portfolio and collaborates with Chinburg’s accounting and property management team to provide timely reporting, monitor financial metrics, and plan and execute capital expenditure projects.
With Chinburg’s focus on historic mill rehabilitation, Matt has a unique skillset in managing and modeling projects with complex capital stacks that include historic tax credit equity, senior and subordinate debt, and private equity.
Matt believes that positive attitude, patience, and diligence are the keys to managing teams as they navigate the twists and turns that are inevitable in real estate development.
Matt has worked on a wide range of projects including multi-family, mixed-use, residential land development, medical office, office, science-driven research facilities and public works. Prior to joining Chinburg in 2013, Matt’s career began in commercial construction estimating, preconstruction, and project management working in Florida and in the Washington, DC area Clark Construction and Danis. In 2001, Matt moved to the Boston-area to work for Intel at one of its advanced semiconductor manufacturing facilities before transitioning to commercial real estate development working for a boutique development firm specializing in healthcare and science-driven facility development and advisory services. Matt was responsible for overseeing the firm’s turnkey development projects and spearheading acquisition, financing, permitting, and facility management. He also developed his skill set in permitting/consultant management, real estate financial modeling, leasing, financing, asset management, business development and competitive proposal preparation.
Education
Matt earned B.S. in Civil Engineering and an MBA both from the University of Maryland in College Park, MD.
Background
Matt is a proud Maryland native who moved to New England after graduate school and to Maine in 2012. He and his wife have four children and live in the coastal town of Scarborough where they enjoy Portland Sea Dog games, swimming, the local beaches and the children’s many sports and arts activities.
